Free Your Mind – What Does That Mean Exactly?
When you started your business, there were probably acceptable practices and standards for success. It could be anything from increasing interaction with customers to using a time-tested method for getting the sale.
That is a good place to start. Other entrepreneurs have a lot of helpful advice to contribute to new business owners. Add to that an attitude of choice. Some businesses die from… Continue reading...
Business Structure Changes – What Would Your Employees Think?
Inevitably, businesses need to restructure in order to survive when things get tough on the economic front. At other times, changes to business structure are a matter of streamlining operations and saving money. As you make these changes, consider your employees.
The main complaint of employees about their employers is that they don’t consider what effects certain changes have on them. There are employers only out for the all-mighty buck and employees are secondary. But, in all fairness, employers do exist who want to improve business but not at the expense of their employees.
As a business owner, you have staff in some capacity. For online businesses, you may have freelancers who contract with you for work or people that you hire. In each case, someone else is depending on you for… Continue reading...

Determination and a Solid Foundation
Your business may be new or several years old. If sales are not so good, what you need now is an infusion of determination. It is the solid foundation of many successful businesses.
We’ve all heard the stories before. Best-selling authors self-published their first novel and sold it out of their cars until they were discovered. Penniless movie stars who were discovered waiting tables or who spent their last dime on a bus ticket to Hollywood for a chance at fame.
The one common thread in these scenarios is determination. Willpower is more of an attitude than an act. It is the feeling that spurs you on to actions that lead to business victory.
This attitude is more than just a “can do” type of approach. Determination encompasses a love of the task… Continue reading...
Organize Your Way to Success

A Necessary Evil
Organization is not a fun thing to do, but it is necessary to keep your business ship running smoothly. Some view it as grunt work – shuffling papers, creating databases, setting up calendars. It is all the reason why some businesses fail while others succeed.
When business is riding high, there is very little time to attend to the organization of things. You say that you will get to it, but never do. There are simply not enough hours in the day. So, you manage with the organizational structure (or the lack thereof) that you have until… Continue reading...
A Brief History of Spam
In the beginning of the internet era, newsgroups on USENET (the online conferencing system), were the main target of spammers. These newsgroups were organized as forums that discussed particular topics. As technology advanced, so did electronic messaging systems, allowing for the practice of crossposting. Crossposting allows people to post the same exact message to multiple newsgroups and online forums.
Unfortunately, this allowed spammers to use crossposting as a tool to their advantage. It made it possible for them to send electronic messages to thousands of newsgroup members simultaneously. The advantage was that they could post to a larger audience without having to differentiate between the interests and focus of the groups they targeted. The worst part of all is it would cost them almost… Continue reading...
Cheap, Fast, or Good? The Triple Constraint of Project Management
When you start planning a new project you need to consider the three main constraints that apply to almost every project management scenario: price, deadline, and scope. Each aspect negatively constrains the other two. A low-budget project can rarely command the work hours needed to complete work within a short deadline. A complex project requires a more flexible budget and schedule. It is up to you, as project manager, to determine if your project needs to be “cheap, fast, or good.”
It’s not a good idea to bluntly ask a client if they want their project “cheap, fast, or good.” Most clients will insist that you deliver on all three. While it may feel intuitive to try and perfectly balance the constraints in your project plan, it is more effective to… Continue reading...

Spyware infections – How many do you have on your PC?
According to a survey done by America Online back in 2004, 91% of computer users had heard of spyware and yet only 53% of them believed there may be spyware on their own computer. However, scanning their machines later revealed that no less than 80% of them were infected. Furthermore, it is suggested that the average number of spyware items is approximately 93 infections per computer, with many computers having hundreds or even thousands of infections. The bottom line is, spyware constantly infects computers globally, and the average computer has little, if any, protection.
What Exactly is Spyware?
