The most important thing in choosing a case is making sure it is made of quality materials and will be long lasting. Prices vary from around $15 to over $100, but, like with anything else, you generally get what you pay for. For better protection, the wisest choice would be a case that is rugged and made of durable materials.

Going with a cheaper brand may save you a little money at the moment, but in the long run damages to an unprotected laptop could cost a whole lot more.  These cases are usually made of cheap materials like vinyl and plastic and won’t withstand normal daily use. If you were to just carry around your laptop without a lot of use, these brands may work. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to an expensive investment like a laptop.

Better cases are made out of materials like leather, nylon, and Kevlar. Kevlar is the same material used in making bullet proof vests, so think of that kind of protection for your laptop. There are cases that are made of metal. These are usually padded with a foam padding and are puncture proof.

Choosing the type of case you need depends on where you will most likely use your laptop. Depending on the use of your laptop should help determine what kind of laptop carrying case you will need.

Hard shell cases are made from metals usually and there are some that are plastic. If you travel extensively with your laptop and pack into your suitcase instead of keeping it right with you, a hard shell case is a good choice. This case can be packed with other items on top of and still protect your laptop. One popular brand of case for travelers is the Targus because their cases are durable in their construction. The Trademark II Overnighter is especially designed for those laptop travelers in that it can accommodate up to a 17″ laptop and all it’s accessories and acts as luggage with room for personal items the traveler may need. This case also rolls so there isn’t any weight to lug around.

Waterproof cases are another good choice of a rugged and durable laptop carrying case. Although they may cost a little more, think of the protection you will have for your laptop. If you are around water with your laptop, always use care. If you do decide to purchase a waterproof case, make sure your laptop is secured in it when you are not using it. Better to be safe than sorry.

The choice is yours. A laptop computer is an investment well worth protecting, so why not spend a little more on a rugged and durable laptop carrying case? You most likely will not regret it. As much as a laptop could cost to replace or to repair, the choice should be easy to make.
