Do you get the oil changed in your car? Do you rotate the tires? Do you go to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned? Why? Because you’re doing preventative maintenance, right? You know that if you change the oil in your car your engine is gonna live longer and you’re gonna have less repairs down the road.

Well, this same concept is really true within your computer network. So Microsoft, on a regular basis, comes up with what they call patches. So they see the weakness in their operating system and this is Microsoft’s way of fixing things. So these patches come out every weekend. If you’re not installing them all the time to make sure that your network is as secure as it can, you’re not doing the regular maintenance. If you’re not monitoring your computer network 24/7, you’re missing some maintenance.

So in other words, if you know that the exchange log is filling up or that this drive is being slow or starting to fail, if we know this information ahead of time, we can prevent a major crisis from happening just because we had information ahead of time. If you’re currently not doing those kind of things on your network, I really encourage you to think about what’s the best way to support your network and monitoring is a great, great way to solve that problem.
