Is October the most “Observed” Month of the Year?

Word Enjoy on yellow backgroundWhoa! Who woulda’ guessed it but, October is just full of National Observances; whether we’re talking about 5 National Days, 1 National Week, or a National Month dedicated in some way to all of us techies and small businesses. Can you believe how much we’re loved by the “National Whatever” folks who put these things together? After all, there is a single group of people who do this for us, right? How else could the lists be so comprehensive?

If you don’t believe us, just take a look at this short-list of biz/tech observances we’ve uncovered for the month:

  • National Cyber Security Awareness Month
  • National Work From Home Week: October 6th – 12th (1stFull Week)
  • Techie’s Day:  October 7th (Always 1st Monday)
  • Improve Your Office Day: October 4th
  • Get to Know Your Customers Day: October 17th ( January 17,  April 18, July 18, and October 17)
  • Information Overload Day: October 20th
  • Internet Day: October 29th

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Can you believe the “Powers-That-Be” have decided that cyber security is worth an entire month of increased awareness? Here we thought we were the only Denver IT support company who was hammering you on your security; and yet, here’s a whole month of National Awareness just around the corner. Looks like some folks are actually beginning to take security seriously. Can we get a high-five?

Are you suffering from Too Much Information (TMI)?

If you’ve been saying “Dude, TMI,” to nearly everyone you meet lately, October 20th is your day this month, as we celebrate (?) Information Overload Day. OK, sure, it takes place on a Sunday so we don’t get a day off from work, but hey, it’s better than nothing right? And, we can always lobby Congress to make it a National Holiday in the future – like we all know it should be. (Besides, this way you can scream your frustration in the privacy of your own home – and avoid being arrested this time.)

How’s your office looking these days?

For all of you small business owners out there, the fun starts right away in October, with Improve Your Office Day taking place on the 4th of the month. While it may seem like just another way for office supply companies to sell you stuff, and it kind of is, we think it also helps to focus everyone on the environment of their offices. Our advice? Use this day to take a look at your office and ask yourself, “Is this where I would work if I had a choice?” If your answer is “No,” it’s time to make some changes.

Our favorite Day of the year

Of course, the most important day of the month this October, not to mention the most important day of the year is – Techie’s Day on the 1st Monday of the month, which is the 7th this year. Why is this the most important day of the year – because we’re a bunch of techies at North Star, of course. (Notice we Capitalized the word Day in the Header for this Section, as a way to Emphasize it for You. Pretty clever, huh?)

So, what should you do to help us celebrate this important day? Well, you could throw us a party. Or, you could simply say “Thank you.” That is really all we ask for. And, if you have a “Techie” in your office, you know, that one person you all ask for help when you lose track of what your machine is doing, give him or her a heartfelt “Thank you” too.

On a more serious note, this is the month to pay attention to the security of your system so, if you’d like some help with that, we’re here for you. The IT experts at North Star are here to help you with all of your Denver IT support needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your IT service request for help with your operating system, apps, servers, or any other issues you may have.
